One Patch Wonder

Have you made a quilt from one shape… repeated over and over? A “One Patch” wonder? I find them fascinating… and soothing… and just a tad intimidating. Could I actually work with so little in variety? The fabric has variety but the shape is… well… the same!

I wanted to see which antique quilts caught my eye and made me go ‘yes I want to do that’… as you now that is what we quilters do!

Only 14″ x 10″ this doll quilt is a use it up type of piece. Straight setting… simple color scheme… and was it for a little girl’s baby doll?

This quilt is from the International Quilt Study Center, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, IQSC Object Number: 2008.034.0199Warm toasty palettes of creams, browns, deep reds and throw in some navy and pink.  Set the entire thing on point… THEN appliqué a flag at the top. THAT got me… awesome…

What draws me to this piece? It’s the layout… the color placement… it’s outstanding to me! Plus it’s made with wool… can you image?  78″ x 78″… where is my graph paper?

It is also a doll quilt measuring in at 26″ x 26″.  What I like is the creative grid the maker did by using color. This gives me an incentive to try a one patch quilt!
