Fruits and Veggies

With the debut of my “Eat Your Fruits and Veggies” fabric line from Moda, I am super interested in what kinds of fruits and veggies I can find on quilts! I know there are holiday pieces with Carrots, fruit is in many of the Baltimore Album style pieces, and I’m sure I can hunt up other variations on quilts. We quilters just love to do whimsical things!First up is this 1920s pattern by Ruby Short McKim.  Pieced baskets filled with fruit. The quilt looks like it is done with mostly solid fabrics. My favorite block is the Banana filled basket… who knew you’d find a banana basket in the 20s!This quilt is dated 1921 the “Fruit Basket” from Ruby Short McKim pattern  from the International Quilt Study Center, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, IQSC Object Number: 2003.003.0381 Strawberries are a favorite image of mine. I’ve used them many times and with a search at the International Quilt study center I found this beauty at a whopping 101 x 101 in size. I seriously would love to make this up!   Dated 1983, it’s a new quilt done in an old style by  Hortense Beck of Topeka Kansas. Once again it looks like the quilter used solids
