Shake Up Your Christmas Décor Palette

The traditional red and green décor of Christmas is as comfortable as a warm blanket.  It conjures up memories of childhood and hot chocolate.   But just because red and green are the traditional colors of Christmas doesn’t mean you can’t move away from these colors while still creating Christmas décor that is every bit as beautiful.  In fact, some of the most striking holiday decorations are those that are a bit unexpected.  Why not try something a little different with your Christmas décor this year by shaking up your color scheme a bit?

Try using silver and white.  Nothing looks quite as wintery as white….unless it’s silver.  Try incorporating these two colors to create a lovely winterscape in your home this Christmas.  Silver and white ornaments, faux snowflakes and icicles are perfect choices for this color scheme.  Adding these wintery beauties to your home is sure to bring in that holiday feeling in a nontraditional way.

Adding a bit of black to a mostly silver and white scheme is a perfect way to add some sophistication to your Christmas palette.   Black may be a completely unexpected addition to a holiday palette, but it adds depth and interest in a way that other colors can’t.

Finally, if you just can’t bring yourself to move away from red and green, try moving away from the typical shades of those traditional colors. For instance, using spring green and a paler tint of red will liven up your décor without being too dramatic.

So if you’re in the mood to shake things up a bit this season, try using unexpected colors in your holiday décor.  With a little bit of imagination, you can create visions of sugar plums in any palette of your choice.
