Backyard Reinvention: Furnishing for Themes

If you’re like me, you might find yourself looking to create different themes for your outdoor living space. Using Fifthroom.com as a guide to all things outdoor décor and my imagination, I’ve selected some pieces that might bring my visions to life. Assuming that I have a decent amount of yard space and unlimited funds, I’ve only limited myself in selection. Can just five items for each concept really change the whole atmosphere? You be the judge. Read on to see how I envision it all coming together. And while you’re at it, maybe you’ll start getting ideas and planning a new arrangement for your outdoor living space as well.

Classic:

For my classic theme, I thought of rural and suburban Americana with white picket fences and fields of flowers. My first piece for the backyard is the galvanized Vinyl Buckingham Arbor. I opted for vinyl because caring for it is stress-free and it’s eco-friendly. Next, I imagined a Vinyl Gable Roof Rectangle Gazebo Swing out on an open lawn. I chose to go with the standard version that includes Rustic Cedar Shingles and no screens. For a dining area, I selected a Vinyl Picnic Table. It’s strong, durable, and easy to clean. The Double Rail Pedestrian Bridge may seem like a bit much but it is very practical when a property includes a stream or creek. Finally, a Vinyl Belle Roof Hexagon Gazebo completes the collection. This particular version has National Blue Asphalt Shingles and a Copper Finial.

Rustic:

When I think of rustic, I think of earthy materials and structures. For this outdoor theme, I wanted to keep everything very fresh and coarse. The very first piece that showcases this is the White Cedar Stained Love Seat Swing. It’s made of 100% Northern White Cedar and has a weight capacity of 500 lbs. Next, I selected the Rustic Garden Pergola. It is a surreal structure also made of White Cedar. For all things made of cedar, they’re naturally aromatic and bug repelling. For the dining area, I chose the 6’ White Cedar Unstained Cabin Table with Detached Benches. Though, it’s mostly made of cedar, it has a white pine top. This table is the epitome of rustic as is the White Cedar Unstained Firewood Rack. And of course, the rack will be used in conjunction with the Fire Ring with Grate. The cooking grate is permanently attached to the ring but flips back for easy cleaning. It also has Cool-Coil handles.

Tropical:

This theme was one of my favorites to seek pieces for. I truly love the idea of bringing the beach to the backyard so imagining it was fun. For my first piece, I picked out the 5’ Treated Pine Roll-Up Walkway. It is made of Treated Pine, Nylon Rope, and Tubing. The walkway really creates a boardwalk feel. The next item is the Rochester Rope Hammock. This hammock is made of Weather Resistant Olefin Rope and includes Solid White Oak Spreaders. Next, I chose the Treated Pine Tiki Bar as a refreshment stand. This version has Cedar Shingles, a Cupola, and an Electrical Package. I chose the 63” Teak Comfort Table with 6 Sailmate Chairs for the dining area. It’s made of 100% Grade A Teak and Sling Material. Another interesting aspect is that the chairs fold flat.  As an accent piece, I selected the Poly Lumber/Wooden Hybrid Assateague Lighthouse Replica with Base. The top and base are made of Poly Lumber, while the center section is made of Top-Quality Laminated Signboard.

-5’ Wide Treated Pine Roll-Up Walkway
-Rochester Rope Hammock
-Treated Pine Tiki Bar
-63” Teak Comfort Table with Sailmate Chairs

Fairytale:

For my fairytale collection, I chose whimsical pieces with simple details. I like to imagine there being a lot of flowers and trees in this yard as well. My first piece is the Oak Swing. It’s made of Appalachian White Oak and has a weight capacity of 500 lbs. Preferably; I’d hang this swing from a sturdy tree branch instead of a frame, but either would do. The next piece is the Treated Pine Single Roof Ramada. This ramada has 6” Post Trim, Charcoal Gray Asphalt Shingles, and a Cupola. It’s the perfect place to hide out on a sunny afternoon. Underneath the ramada, I imagined the Red Cedar Royal Patio Dining Set. This set is made of Western Red Cedar and has rounded and sanded edges. It also is deep seated and provides lower lumbar support. As a garden decoration, I picked the Treated Pine Wishing Well. Stained or unstained, the well is brilliant. This particular version has a Cedar Shake Shingled Roof. My final piece for this collection is the Treated Pine Cottage Face to Face Swing. It’s heavy duty and durable with highback traditional seating and a Cedar Shake Roof.

Zen:

My Zen outdoor living space would be calm and serene, just like the name suggests. It wouldn’t exactly be a Zen garden but it would be a place for reflection and peace. The first piece is the Red Cedar Eden ½ Picket Rail Bridge. This particular bridge is 8’ x 36” and has a Cedar Tone Stain/Sealer. It’s not as large as a pedestrian bridge but is still functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. I imagine a great deal of foliage and stones in this particular space. I’d like to assume that I would also have a patio for this theme where I would lay the Bali Damask Rug. This rug is machine woven with a Non-Skid Pad. It is made of 100% Polypropylene Pile and would serve to keep this outdoor space very minimalistic. On top of the rug would be the 60” Teak Drop Leaf Table and Full Weave Chair Set. This dining set is honey colored, made of 100% Grade A Teak and durable Synthetic Wicker, and includes off white cushions. Instead of a pagoda, I opted for the Concrete Tranquil Waters Birdbath as an accent. It is hand-crafted and made of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete. Finally, I chose the Carbon Steel Classic Fire Pit to bring it all together. This fire pit is made of American Carbon Steel with an Iron Oxide Patina Exterior and a High Temperature Painted Interior. Each piece is numbered and signed.

-Bali Damask Rug
