When the holidays are over and the decorations come down, our houses can look a little bit bare. It can actually be a bit disconcerting for a little while. But January offers a chance to shake things up a little bit. All it takes is a bit of creative thinking to decorate your home for the post-Holiday season. Following are three easy ideas to warm up your January house.
First, try adding extra fabric to your post-holiday home. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. New pillows and throws can add instant interest and warmth to a living room or bedroom. Simply choose some warm hues that compliment your existing décor and your off to a good start. You might try adding curtains to bare windows or even add a “wall of curtains” behind a bed, by stretching curtains all the way across a windowless wall. Not only will it add warmth, but it will give the illusion that your house has more windows than it actually does.
Second, try bringing in live plants. Once all the greenery of the holiday season is removed from your home, you can bring in some of that same warmth by adding other living plants. One great choice for winter is Paperwhite Bulbs. These bulbs can be forced to bloom mid-winter and bring a different shade of green to your post-holiday home.
Finally, try using white. Winter whites are one of the easiest ways to convert your holiday décor to everyday décor once all the hoopla is over for the season. White is a perfect color for winter decorating helping a space to feel festive without being holiday specific. Add in some white vignettes around your home and you’ll feel winter-festive long after the New Year has begun.
The post-holiday season doesn’t have to feel hum drum. By following these three simple tips you can make your January home every bit as inviting as it was during the holidays.
