The air has turned cold, and as much as I don’t want to admit it, I may be ready for colder weather. Isn’t it great to get our your sweaters and maybe that great scarf you crocheted? Well as a quilter we also pull out our fall color quilts. Switch out the Halloween fun quilts for a bit of warm and toasty golds and browns. I am a total sunflower-crazed quilter. I continue to collect sunflower fabric and it never disappoints me! This wall hanging was a great way to show off that print.

And what about antique quilts? I am a member of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum in Lincoln Nebraska. I cruised around their website and found this amazing Sunflower quilt.  What I like is the large flowers with the big happy center. And then there is embroidery to give it more detail.

This quilt is from Pennsylvania and dates to about 1938. Believed to be a kit or a pattern. It measures a good 79″ x 79″. A great cuddle quilt or wall hanging for today’s standards.

Even in 1938 the quilters didn’t have the fabrics with prints that we have today. But can you image what that quilter might have done if she did have a sunflower print? I’m thinking a great big border would have been added!

To show off those larger quilts I like a quilt rack. You can change what is on the top and hold several quilts to be used and shared on a chilly fall day.
