Operation Write Home

I am part of the Therm O Web design team, which is such an inspirational group to be in! We talk crafts all the time. Recently the discussion has been on “Operation Write Home”, which is a group that accepts new cards (hand-made or not) to be sent to soldiers so they can stay in touch with loved ones by mail as well as the “new tradition” of emailing!

Operation Write Home has a list of the types of cards they are looking for. They even have a great page with “deadlines” for specialty cards. The “Back to School” cards need to be sent in by July 31. It is wonderful to know what is needed and how to get it to them in a timely manner.

This link takes you to what is needed, but click the home page after you get there. They are working on collecting their SECOND Million cards for our heroes—is that amazing or what?!

Many of the designers on the team are into paper crafts, so they have made cards for demos, classes, and publication. Alice Golden went through her collection of cards and found this grouping to send.

Rachel Carlson, of Lost in the Attic, writes this amazing note to us about her set of cards and why she feels strongly about supporting Operation Write Home.

“If I can impress on all of you to make as many cards as you can that would be great. I know many of you know military folks abroad and/or even have your own soldiers across borders. They LOVE to write home. I know it to be true. My brother served in the navy straight out of high school (1987). He was lost and scared out of his mind. We graduated together. He loved writing home to me, his baby sister. My brother is no longer with us. Albeit a hard project for me to work on right now, it helps to know that we will make it possible AND beautiful for soldiers to write home. Happy card making and cheers to a creative day.”

The whole Therm O Web Design Team has amazing inspirational work and cards. Visit them for ideas and tutorials, and email me if you send cards—I’d love to know.
