CREATING GARDEN GATHERING AREAS

We all love our gardens and want to spend time in them, right? From curling up by ourselves with a good book, or sharing the garden with our families and friends, our garden spaces serve a variety of functions. If you have the space, consider dedicating a part of your garden for gathering and entertaining from small tea parties to larger happy hours! Gathering spaces can be created on a variety of budgets if you pay attention to the important pieces and accents.

If you’re lucky enough to have a covered patio space at the back of your house, put it to good use! This is perfect for small gatherings, intimate lunches, even baby or wedding showers. Start with comfortable seating like a wicker couch and matching chairs, then add cozy cushions, a patterned rug and simple potted plants. Keep the feel cozy and enclosed for a traditional, comfortable feeling.

Those with a pool area will welcome having a gathering space close by for lounging and cocktails. Consider creating a charming covered deck softened with flowering vines, hanging baskets overflowing with flowers and seating that invites people to relax and linger. Outdoor curtains add a textural layer, further protection from the sun and a bit of privacy for romantic dinners.

Ready for a more lively gathering? Add a tiki hut to your lush tropical space! Your friends and family will never want to leave this exotic spot, complete with built-in seating and a flat screen TV for watching the game. If you love the tropical island feel of the tiki hut but have a smaller space or budget, simply recreate it on a smaller scale and trade in the custom accents for more ready-made ones. Keep the key elements of the thatched roof and bamboo construction and you’re good to go!
