I recently celebrated my anniversary with my husband on Catalina Island. It was our first visit and we had a fabulous time.  We boarded the catamaran for the trip across the channel, our first stop was a lovely lunch for two at a seafood restaurant right on Avalon Bay. Dining Alfresco with a view of the famous casino that Wrigley built, the clear blue water, and the yachts anchored in the harbor was a romantic beginning to our celebration. The quintessential element of enjoying a meal with one other person is the intimacy of the moment.

 

During our trip we dined at a table for two the entire time. Breakfast was served every morning in our room at a lovely Bed & Breakfast, our host would carry a large basket filled with seasonal fruit, yogurt, granola, homemade bread, juice, coffee or tea, dishes, cups and a crisp white table cloth. He set the table for two, my husband and I sat in wicker chairs luxuriating in our wholesome breakfast while savoring the view of the harbor in the morning sunlight.

 

You can create these feelings of intimacy at your home with a bistro table and two chairs.  A courtyard, sheltered alcove, porch or garden setting is the perfect location for an intimate space.  Bistro tables can be round or square, and the chairs can be intricate or simple.  When considering the consummate lay out, think about the exposure. If you spend time in the morning enjoying a newspaper and coffee with your partner, then find an area that will capture the value of a beautiful sunrise view.  Or if you prefer release the stress of the day by sharing a cocktail along with a tête-à-tête, keep the sunset in mind.

 

Surround your alfresco bistro table with colorful potted plants, utilize a tablecloth to add vividness and style. Add fresh flowers in a lovely vase and candles to illuminate the night.

 

You too can create comparable settings as the ones I cherish from my time on Catalina Island with my husband. Take some time to plan an intimate setting and then enjoy.

 

The most idyllic evening dining with my husband as we celebrated our anniversary was of course at a table for two in an Italian restaurant overlooking Avalon Harbor at sunset. The table set in a honey hue complimented the soft candlelight as we savored a bottle of wine from Italy, feasted on fresh fish and local vegetables as the sun splashed into the sea.
