I thought I’d continue the theme of crafting for kids!
First, I must share a memory. As a kid I was really big into building forts. Seriously – I LOVED building forts. Maybe it was because I had brothers, or maybe I just like houses and structures and…. well… forts! I built houses for my Barbies, my other dolls, and for me!
One of my earliest memories is creating a fort out of 4 chairs and a sheet. I accented it with pillows and snacks. Hey, I was a kid!Well, Shea of Empty Bobbin Sewing has created the perfect pattern for your little fort makers. It is based on a card table and is just the MOST ADORABLE pattern EVER. I need to make one for my littlest niece. She is only 6 months old, but I do think she will love this!
Let’s go up an age bracket to a craft that would be fun for slightly older kids to do themselves. Heck, I think this would be fun for MY friends to do together! How easy is this..? Find some great straws (they come in all kinds of yummy colors), some card-stock in the right colors, and some yarn. Then, cut the straws and card-stock, string it all together, and there you have it – necklaces or maybe a garland! If you don’t have a machine to cut the shape, you can find shapes precut at the craft store.
And now for the teens in your family: Find a deck of playing cards and turn it into coupon books! Do you remember doing this for your family? (Or maybe you have received one!).I think this is SUCH a fabulous project. This book is for Valentines Day, but you can do it for Father’s Day, birthdays, or just because it’s cute! Big jump rings, ribbons, and some paper and glue make this a completely easy project.
So tell me, did YOU make forts, garlands, or coupon books as a kid?
