As the summer temperatures continue to rise, we are looking for ways to cool down. Sitting outdoors by a pool, lake, river or ocean is always a good way to begin. If you are not near any of those cooling features, try adding cool colors to your outdoor space.
It is a very well known fact that colors can make you feel warm or cool. Blue, green, and violet are considered cool colors. When you think of a cool lake or ice-covered pond, you see cool colors, according to About.com.
The colors of red, orange, and yellow are considered warm colors because they are the colors of fire.
A nice refreshing cool drink of lemonade, ice tea or a summer cocktail such as a classic Margarita with lime juice sugar, tequila and Cointreau or a Mojito with a balance of mint, lie, rum, sugar and club soda will do the trick.
Just as these drinks rely on the cool colors of lime and lemon so do the Sunbrella Garden Collection, which includes Peridot green and yellow along with the color of the year, pink.
I am often baffled that so many people in hot dessert climates decorate with warm oranges, red and yellow rather than the cool colors of a lake, pool or ocean. An outdoor living space surrounded by beige sand and gray rocks, neutral painted homes and desert landscape would cool down with the addition of Sunbrella cool colored fabric such as Carolina Seabreeze, and Bristol- Air Blue. Even the names of the fabric make me think of a sparkling cool clear blue and refreshing swimming pool.
So consider your climate before choosing the color for your outdoor living space.
Perhaps think about, switching wherever you live, have one set of cool colors for the hot summer months and then rotate in the warm colors of oranges and reds to get cozy with in the cold winter months. If you are like me, you will love to redesign your outdoor space for the season. Here is a fabulous idea, use reversible cushions and pillows just for this purpose.
What ever you decide I hope you stay cool this summer! Let me know how you do it leave a comment below.
