Capturing Tuscany’s Romance and Elegance

Anyone who visits Tuscany can surely attest to how this Italian region is just bursting with warmth and elegance. Whether it’s in its gorgeous landscapes, its rich artistic legacy, or every aspect of the land’s culture, everything about Tuscany can be summed up in one word: Breathtaking.

If you haven’t been there, you might have caught a glimpse of it in the movie Under the Tuscan Sun where the heroine, played by Diane Lane, retreats to the comfort and charm of the Italian Renaissance’s birthplace. Besides enjoying the emotionally-compelling storyline, one thing that really stood out for me was film’s spectacular setting.

Tuscany has a distinct style that exudes class while reflecting its surroundings. Stephen McCabe, the production designer responsible for the film’s look, was able to capture the essence of this Italian countryside; so much so that I just feel like stepping into the screen and savoring every sight and sound every time I watch the film.

With a few alterations and changes, it is possible to redecorate your patio to resemble that of a charming Tuscan villa?

My answer? Most definitely!

Welcoming Autumn in Your Own Version of Tuscany. Fall is one of best seasons to explore Tuscan styling. The vibrant hues of orange and red surrounding your home are sure to make you think back to Tuscany’s own colors of rolling golden and green fields. On this note, it is important that we take advantage of the beauty around us and let our inner decorator run free by changing our environment to recreate an enchanting Tuscan patio to help us get the most out of the season before winter arrives.

The Tuscan Color Palette. Achieving this particular style can be done by keeping to earthy hues balanced with rich, warm colors. As dominant shades, yellows, oranges, and reds can help transform your surroundings into a harmonious, picturesque masterpiece that represents the birthplace of great artists like Michelangelo, Da Vinci, and Donatello.

Start by purchasing slip covers for outdoor couches and coordinating throw pillows following this palette; then consider the same range of shades for outdoor table cloths or table runners, if any. If you want to add rich texture to your space, try looking into tapestry or embroidered material for your accents.

Other colors you can work with include green and light shades of blue. Base your choices on shades that remind you of plants, fruits, the earth, and the sky.

The Signature Sunflower. Like the cherry on top of a sundae, sunflowers are a must to put the finishing touches to your Tuscan-themed patio. Personally, I prefer using a glass vase for this vibrant flora, but other vases should do alright. Taking care of these striking, beautiful, fresh-cut flowers takes minimal effort; after cutting a half-inch from each stem’s base, all you have to make sure of is that its water is always clean.

You don’t have to travel miles away to experience the enchanting ambience of Tuscany. By knowing more about the designs and colors they use in this Italian region, you can easily recreate Tuscany’s old world charm.

What other places in the world would you like to recreate in your backyard? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments!
