For the last few years, there has been a definite trend toward using birds in décor. Our avian friends can be found on everything from pillows, to wallpaper, to rugs, to light fixtures.  They can be whimsical or they can be sophisticated.  Let’s face it.  There’s just something about birds that makes a room a little bit happier.

Don’t feel secure enough in the bird trend to go all out with wallpaper?  No worries.  A great way to incorporate birds into your décor is to add in an accessory here and there.  A throw pillow with an avian motif is a great way to try out the trend without commitment.

If you feel a little bit braver, you might try using birds in your upholstery, or perhaps incorporate a light fixture.  Although these are definitely a bit more of a commitment, they are still fairly easy to change out should the trend wane in the near future.

Another great way to try on the bird trend without going all out is to bring in items that refer a little less directly to our feathered friends.  Such items might include displaying bird eggs, or even a nest.  Or try displaying a bird cage or bird house indoors.  Bird cages and houses can make lovely architectural art pieces in your home.  Bird houses can range from rustic to elegant and can add the perfect touch of the unexpected to just about any space.
