Outdoor rugs frame a space, add color, texture and now with this innovative technique they can be part of the permanent hardscape.
Sara Baldwin founded New Ravenna Mosaics in 1991 and Sara Baldwin Design in 1999. As an artistic entrepreneur, she is known for always being at the forefront of hard surface design.
She recently visited friends in Southern California and was pleasantly surprised to see a New Ravenna Mosaic Tile Rug in their outdoor room.
“In this seating area around a fireplace the homeowner and friend of Sara Baldwin used a simple Charleston border and basket weave field combination to create an outdoor “rug” –so clever, yet almost never done!!!” said Sara.
This is so true to life I actually thought it was an actual outdoor rug made from acrylic fibers. I love this idea and want to share it with everyone who appreciates style and innovation. This is so unusual, yet such a wonderful use of tile and design.
New Ravenna sources mosaic tiles, stones, and glass from across the Americas, Europe, and the Far East to fashion into stunning art mosaics. The inspiration is drawn from this craft’s rich history — but the design is at the cutting edge of the contemporary.
At their studios on Virginia’s rural Eastern Shore, designers and artisans work side by side to create works of art that are as practical as they are spectacular.
Just think about how wonderful an outdoor tile rug would compliment a pergola or gazebo.
Do you have an outdoor rug? If so what kinds do you fancy? Write a comment and let me know.
