Wall Art in 3D

What we choose to put on our walls expresses our personality. And if that’s the case, you certainly don’t want to be caught with boring wall art. I’ve put together a few fun and inexpensive ideas for wall art. You won’t find any boring, flat, 2-dimensional art amongst these ideas; each of these art ideas are in 3D and are guaranteed to be unique to your own personality.

Collected items as wall art

Idea #1: Display a collection. This idea works best if you happen to collect smaller objects such as seashells or—as in the case of the photo above—buttons. Simply glue said objects to a backing and frame without glass. Collections of larger objects can also be interesting; for example, a collection of skateboards mounted on the wall makes great interactive art in a teenage boy’s bedroom.

Idea #2: A similar idea on a smaller scale is to frame a single, treasured keepsake.  A shadowbox frame is a great option to display your first pair of baby shoes, the unique rock you found on vacation, or a favorite toy from childhood. Shadowboxes are available in a variety of ready-made sizes, but are also easy to construct with basic woodworking skills for a custom size.

Idea #3: Add unexpected elements to a photo wall. Gallery walls are a wonderful way to display many cherished items in one place. However, a bunch of frames on a wall can be a bit, shall we say, tedious. Adding unexpected 3-dimensional items, such as the monograms and metal banner in this grouping, will add interest and show your personality.

What are you waiting for?  Liven up those walls with unique art (in 3D!) and show off your personality!
