Swing Into Winter

Long gone are the warm days of summer, when relaxing on the porch was a regular habit.  With winter just around the corner, many people are longing for the lazy days of summer, and counting the days until next summer begins.

But there’s something about the comfort of a porch swing that lasts long beyond the lazy days of summer. Wonderful memories often are made from the comfort of a porch swing – watching your kids play in the back yard, sharing a drink with a dear friend while talking about your day, or watching the sun set and the stars appear with someone you love – these are the kinds of memories which keep us warm, even through the harshest of winters.

With the holiday season fast approaching, a porch swing can make a wonderful gift. Selecting a quality swing – one that will last many years – should be a priority when making the decision to purchase a swing. If you are new to buying, here are a few tips to help select a swing that will help you make memories for years to come:

  • Choose a quality material, such as pressure-treated pine. Pressure-treated pine is an extremely durable material, making it ideal for outdoor furniture which will be exposed to the elements. It also is one of the least-expensive materials, making porch swings affordable for everyone.
  • Choose a swing that is environmentally friendly. With the “green revolution” in full swing, it only makes sense to purchase a swing that is not only durable and attractive, but friendly to the environment. Swings such as this one are engineered from an eco-friendly, carbon-based formulation.
  • Choose a swing which includes comfort features. Finding the right construction will make all the difference in how much a swing is used, as well as the relaxation and comfort level of those using it. Proper back support is an important comfort feature. Some swings, such as this one, are designed with lumbar support in mind.
  • Choose a swing that matches your style. Where do you plan to use your swing? If you plan to incorporate it into a back porch or outdoor living area, choose a swing that best fits into the current style of that area. Do you want a curved back? A straight back? Will the swing need to be stained or painted to match a current theme? Be sure to choose a supplier that can meet these unique needs.
  • Choose the correct size for your location. Before purchasing a porch swing, ask yourself where it will be used. If you are planning to use it on your back porch, make sure you select a swing which will adequately fit on the porch. Most porches are able to handle a 4-to-6 foot swing. Also, determine the number of people you expect to be using the swing to ensure you choose a size big enough to accommodate them.
  • Customer service is the key to choosing a great swing. If you are new to selecting a swing, choose a supplier that will provide you with the expert advice you need.
