Bag Ladies, Raise Your Hand!

When I say Bag Lady, do you have an image of a crazy shopping girl? Well, not if you are a crafter!  For us… a bag is an adornment, it’s a container, it’s a fashion statement!

I held a bag making session on my blog one New Year’s eve.. you know for those of us who didn’t go out to a party but wanted to stay home and sew!

We all made the “Grab Bag” from American Patchwork & Quilting magazine.. it was SUCH FUN!  And along the way we came up with 100 uses for the bag… here are my top 20 favorite uses for the “Grab Bag.”

  1. Hold a sewing project
  2. Keep a sock project in it (yes.. all you SOCK Knitting people!)
  3. Use as a mini laundry bag in your bathroom, or make a bit larger for this!
  4. Make it for your charger cords
  5. As an evening bag when made in velvet
  6. College kids to take bath items ‘down the hall’… do they have community bathrooms anymore in a college? Mine did a LONGGGGGGG time ago!
  7. To hold ‘doggie bags’ when walking the dog
  8. great for someone who uses a cane. It would hang on the curved part and you could place your hand on it to keep it in place.
  9. Hang on your long arm machine with your tools
  10. Hang on the front door and stick things in it that need to go with you
  11. For teens to put on their bedroom door so you can ‘leave’ them things without entering their room.. hehe!
  12. Hang on the door knob of your guest room (if you have extra rooms or are empty nesting like me!) Put toiletries and needed items your guests might have forgotten. Then your guests can take them home with them as a homemade gift from you with lots of good memories of their stay!
  13. Goodie bags for a party
  14. Make as the gift bag for a present
  15. In the car as a trash bag, hang on a knob or on the back of a seat
  16. Scale the pattern down to quarter size, add a clip for attaching to your belt loop with a clip, now have a lovely “hands free” bag
  17. Reindeer Food: (Everyone leaves cookies for Santa, the grandchildren will love having their very own reindeer food bags.)
  18. Use a novelty fabric and make the bag for a child’s little toys, great for taking along
  19. Halloween Trick or Treat bag that matches costumes
  20. Bag for collecting plastic shopping bags

Some of the bags made during the sew along.. cute eh?

Here is the pattern for the bag… and here is a link to my sewing tutorial to go with it!
